Every time a new eatery opens in the Vale we have to try it so we were especially excited to book a table at The Corner, a relatively new Indonesian style café in Llantwit Major.

Previously Siti was the Head Chef at the Priory in Tetbury, the Cotswolds, where, along with her team, won the Cotswold Life Food and Drink award for Best Menu in 2014. “I have had a further two trips to the finals including Best Newcomer of the Year for the Stargazy fish restaurant in 2016,” she adds proudly.

Siti, originally from Indonesia, is passionate about using locally sourced ingredients, and was taught to cook by her mum. Siti caters for all day casual dining along with a range of coffees, teas, and soft drinks for those just wanting to chill out.

There’s an all-day brunch on offer and you can bring your own bottle. Currently the menu is around 70% Indonesian and it’s already a hit with locals. “Feel free to ask for some specials that are a little on the spicy side if you don’t see any on the menu!” she says.

Most popular dishes are Bakmi Jawa, Nasi Goreng, Mini Tumpeng and there are vegan/vegetarian options available with a menu change roughly every two months “to keep it interesting”.

Besides all day dining Siti’ offers event catering and locals benefit from a very popular click and collect with ordering online.

Indonesian cooking is very popular right now – no dairy, no butter, gluten free, tempeh and tofu make it a very healthy, but tasty option.

And Siti’s hopes and dreams for the future? “To be well known for good coffee, service and great food!” If our recent experience is anything to go by, she’s on to a winner.
