It’s been a challenging time for everyone, and, if you’re in the hospitality and restaurant trade, there currently seems no let up. However, one particular Turkish restaurant in Penarth, and favourite of ours, has pushed through the crisis and remained open for takeaways pretty much throughout. The restaurant I’m referring to of course is Keyif.
Mehmet Yadiz and his lovely team have stayed open right the way through offering takeaway at a time when many restaurants closed their doors. In fact, Mehmet (pictured below) was determined to stay open to ensure the people of Penarth had the opportunity to have great quality Turkish food available as usual (Konsistently Keyif).
While most restaurants remain closed (even for takeaways), Keyif continues to open – so what’s on offer?
Pretty much everything from their usual menu but you’d be advised to pick up a takeaway menu from the restaurant. Our favourites are any of the lamb dishes. Their salads are simply superb. Everything off the grill is unbelievably good. Bottom line, whatever you order it’ll be a winner.
Here’s a review we did back in March just as we were entering lockdown. Nothing has changed. Keyif is consistently good and the service is superb.
Let’s not pretend that this pandemic hasn’t affected every restaurant in the Vale. It;s been tough. But the Turks have a saying “Geçmiş olsun” which means “May it be the past”. It’s usually said when someone is sick or has had a bad experience and it recognises someone’s pain, but also expresses the hope that it will soon be behind them. There has never been a time where this has been more appropriate.
At this point, we should also congratulate Keyif for being awarded Best Takeaway in Penarth by #RestaurantGuru for 2019 which they announced on the 15th June.
