Don’t Say Pizza, Say Caprinos!

Every so often, we like a takeaway. Usually that means jumping in the car and nipping down to our favourite Chinese or Indian takeaway. Luckily, we have pretty good ones in Rhoose. Sadly we don’t, to my knowledge, have a pizzaria in the village. Our son definitely likes pizzas but if we don’t have any in the freezer, usually it’s game over. That is until we picked up a leaflet for Caprinos Pizza in Barry (yes a leaflet – remember those? Printed advertising works).

So, last Tuesday, early evening, we all decided we fancied a takeaway. Problem was, we’d already had a drink and didn’t want to drive. We remembered the leaflet from Caprinos and thought we’d give them a try. Now it’s always risky trying somewhere for the first time- who knows what you’re going to get?

We ordered three 9″ pizzas, some wings and a couple of cake desserts. Plus the usual bottle of pop which came with the reasonably priced meal deal.

Forty minutes later, our food arrived courtesy of a very smart and polite driver. All the social distancing rules were observed (he was very particular about this) and we thanked him and unwrapped our feast.

There’s something quite wonderful about a takeaway. Sitting watching a movie at home with pizza or whatever – we’ve done it for decades and it’s still a fun thing to do, particularly because it brings people together. Takeaways certainly encourage family socialising.

We ordered by phone but you can order online (good website) where they have exclusive online offers. We could have ordered their 18″ pizza (claims to be the biggest pizza in town) but chose variety – perhaps next time.

The pizzas were excellent. Very rustic and full of flavour. Jack and I chose a pepperoni each and a spicy peppered topping with chicken on a cheese base. This was also very good (a spare for later). The bbq chicken wings were super tasty – plump and perfectly cooked. We finished off our meal with a few cakes (always nice to end with something sweet) and, I  have to say, the carrot cake was superb. Fresh, carroty, moist and very creamy. It just melted in the mouth.

Would I order from Caprinos again?
Absolutely. The pizzas were really good. It was value for money and they provide a professional and polite service. The movie and evening was a hit and we’re already planning a pizza evening with some friends in the next couple of weeks.

Here are some images which give you a flavour of what we ordered. It’s a big thumbs up from us.
