With special event nights all year round, it really is worth keeping tabs on the Penny Farthing in Cowbridge. They are always excellent and as Penny Farthing is part of the Town & Country Collective, you’re almost guaranteed a great evening with excellent service and quality dining.

You may have read our previous review of the Special Event evening at the Penny Farthing, Cowbridge. Here’s the link https://valelife.co.uk/penny-farthing-special-event-lights-up-cowbridge/

We recently attended their latest event, a Welsh Steak Night. As usual the quality of food was excellent and the steak, as we’d hoped, particularly good. I think the images usually do the talking better than any words I could write, but I would give special praise for the starter, and the mushroom that accompanied the steak. I don’t usually like mushrooms – they tend to get pushed off the plate or hidden under a napkin. This particular field mushroom was hidden in my tummy pretty quickly once I’d tasted it – it was, honestly, the best mushroom I’ve eaten in ages and the perfect partner to a perfectly cooked steak.

The starter was excellent by the way, and the dessert? Well, that was a winner. The images here don’t do it justice and even with the romantic light (not great for photography), if it looked good, it tasted divine. A perfect way to end the meal. Good coffee followed and I sensed that we weren’t alone in our praise for another great evening at Penny Farthing.

Hot steak tip…
Never tell a chef how you want your steak. Just ask for how chef usually prepares it for himself and you’ll find, more-often-than-not, that it will be the best it can be. Trust me, at Penny Farthing, the chef knows what he’s doing.

Big round of applause for the staff – they’re always really friendly, helpful and keen to please.

So, nothing but praise for this establishment. We’re regulars to be honest and I have a favourite from their daytime menu – chicken livers, with big fat chips and crusty bread. It’s truly scrumptious.

Next up!
I believe the Italian Night is already booked up but it’s always worth a call as there were a few places available on the Steak Night because of a couple of no shows.
