Sunday Lunch At Cottrell Park Is A Steal

The last time we dined at Cottrell Park was before they their marquee had been turned into a more permanent structure. We thought we’d pay it another visit for a spot of Sunday lunch.

The catering is now managed by the brilliant Spiro’s (excellent reputation) and from the minute we arrived, Lyn greeted us with a big smile. I must say she and the rest of the team were spot on.  I liked the way that the tables were set out; enough room between each one for private conversations. White tablecloths and shiny silverware. All good.

The lunch was carvery style and we were blown away by the choices. Soup and a choice of cold meats and salads to start. Beef, pork and turkey with all the trimmings for mains, and an amazing choice of desserts to finish off. We’ll come back to the desserts later.

My biggest bugbear with some carveries is that the food never seems to be hot enough – the veg is very often soggy and the meat carvers can sometimes be a bit stingy with the portion sizes. Not so here. The meat was plentiful and pink. The veg was al dente and, once we got the food to the table, it was still good and hot.

Chef was very helpful with providing me with gluten-free gravy and pointing out which desserts were gf too.

Ooooooh, desserts…
Probably the “piece de resistance” (Nessa voice) were the desserts. Choices included lemon posset, gateaux, profiteroles, gooey chocolate cake, brownie, meringue and a hot treacle pudding with caramel sauce or custard (or both). At least they are the ones I can remember – there may have been more!

Don’t tell them but we smuggled a chocolate brownie for tea!

Real value for money
At £16.95 per person for three courses, £9.95 for one course and children under 10, we thought this was incredible value.
