Alun Cairns, MP said: “Post Office services are crucial to residents in the Vale and I am delighted to mark the reopening of the local service in St Brides. Thank you to Vishal for taking on the shop and Post Office, and to his team who have done a fantastic job helping get it all ready. This is fantastic news for people living and working in St Brides and the surrounding villages, so make sure to visit and support the vital service.”

Vishal, originally from India, came over 17 years ago to study for an MBA in Cardiff.  After graduating he decided to stay in Wales and he opened his first convenience store in Cardiff.

This is Vishal’s second convenience store and his first Post Office. He took his knowledge from modernising his first SPAR store in Cardiff to transform The Village Shop. When the shop re-opened in January it had undergone a facelift to become a SPAR store. It is now a fully stocked shop, with much wider range of retail than before. There are lots of American brands, unusual for sale in a village, which have proved very popular. Enthusiastic staff also sought feedback from customers about products that they would like added and the shop’s wide range of goods now meet the needs of the village.

St Brides Major Postmaster, Vishal Gandhi, said “St Brides Major is a beautiful village with beautiful people. When I opened the shop, staff came from my Cardiff shop to help and they found it such a lovely place to work as the people are so nice and friendly. They wanted to carry on working here.

“Last summer, friends in the area had heard that the shop in St Brides Major was up for sale. So, on my way to the beach, I popped by to see it. I could immediately see that it was a lovely village and that there was lots of potential for this shop.

“I really want to thank Amrit Subedi, Jayesh Kumar Timba, Sinead Hope Harrison, Jay Trivedi and Guven Oguz for all that they have done to help set up this shop and for serving the community and for getting to know the shopping needs. Sales have trebled since we took over. The staff have been fully trained to provide Post Office services and the community is so happy to have this branch on their doorstep again. It is very handy for residents and businesses.”

The opening hours of St Brides Major Post Office are: Monday, Thursday, Friday: 9am – 5pm; Tuesday: 9am – 1pm; Wednesday: 1pm – 5pm. This provides 32 hours Post Office service a week for the convenience of customers.

Santosh Samudrala, Post Office Network Provision Lead, said: “We are delighted to have restored Post Office services to St Brides Major as we know how important a Post Office is to a community. The people of St Brides Major now have a great village shop and Post Office at the heart of the village.”
