Celebrate the Season of Giving: Join Maggie’s Festive Concert for Cancer Support. Join Maggie’s for a festive afternoon at the Memo Arts Centre in Barry on Saturday 23rd November.
The event will feature choirs and solo artists who will entertain attendees and instil a festive spirit. The purpose of this gathering is to raise funds for Maggie’s cancer support drop-in centre, located within the grounds of Velindre Cancer Centre. This centre offers free specialist cancer support to individuals with cancer, and their family and friends across South-East Wales.
Maggie, a young mother who lived with advanced cancer for two years, along with her husband and medical team, developed a blueprint for a new type of cancer care that focuses on the holistic needs of those affected by cancer. Her approach was based on the belief that stress-reducing strategies, psychological support, and the opportunity to meet others in similar circumstances are essential to aid the body through treatment.
The centre provides an evidence-based programme of psychological, social, and practical support to individuals with cancer and their families. This programme is available for free, for anyone with cancer at any stage, regardless of where they are being treated, and for as long as they need it.
A diagnosis of cancer brings challenging decisions, exhausting treatments, intense emotions, and a multitude of overwhelming questions. Beyond medical treatment, individuals often need information on how the treatment may affect them, emotional support, practical advice, and a place to meet others facing similar challenges.
The centres offer a safe and calm environment for practical advice about benefits and nutrition, emotional support from qualified experts, and spaces for social interaction or quiet reflection. The core programme of support has demonstrated improvements in physical and emotional wellbeing during treatment and recovery.
The workshops, courses, and support groups at Maggie’s help people adjust to living with cancer by focusing on crucial aspects like managing financial concerns, dealing with stress and depression, handling treatment side effects, support for relationships and families, and bereavement support.
Rachael Davies, the Centre Fundraising Manager, notes, “We don’t receive any government funding at all, so every pound needed to run our centre is raised through events like this concert. We’d be delighted if you could join us to help raise much-needed funds and get into the festive spirit.”
Doors will open at 2:15pm for a 3pm start. Tickets can be purchased through Eventbrite at Maggie’s Cardiff Christmas Concert 2024
