Richard, our resident Vale Life artworker and all-round fixer, recently took himself into Cardiff for a session at Flight Club. Rich loves his darts so we thought this would be great feedback about the venue. We asked Richard about the evening even though, technically, we’re not allowed to talk about Flight Club.

Who did you go with?
I invited three friends along from my darts team: Basher, Big Bob and The Beast. Ash (Basher) couldn’t make it, so my wife (Nadya) was subbed in – at least she bought a bit of glamour to the event!

What food was being served?
We were provided with tasters of new menu items throughout the evening, pizza (Gluten free options were available), curly fries, sweet potato fries, straight fries; we were drowning in fries. There were some other options but, somehow, we missed these.

How about drinks?
We were treated to prosecco on arrival, a selection of beers, ciders and soft drinks were available to help yourself to at the bar. Every half hour a new cocktail was served, I’m not exactly sure what they were but everyone we tried was yummy. After a few cocktails we decided it was time to commence battle on the oche (with some beers of course!)

How was the darting experience?
We all love darts at Flight Club, always great fun, we’re all very competitive but it seems like Nadya is the most competitive as she won the first game. The games are focused on fun, you don’t need to be a pro darter to win. Lots of laughs and banter ensued, we were then joined by another group which was great, it brings the social aspect into the evening.

What was the service like?
We were greeted by friendly staff and served drinks and food promptly. We requested a gluten free pizza for Gareth (The Beast) which was super tasty. We all tried a variety of cocktails and filled our bellies with food (mainly fries). The staff were busy but did a great job.
What was the atmosphere like?
We were among the first to arrive at the event so chose a great spot to sit, the roof terrace soon filled up to create a buzzing atmosphere. The atmosphere only got better when we went in to play darts, lots of parties and a guy on the mic providing some funny dart commentary. It’s a different experience to playing serious darts in our darts league.

Did you have to wait long in between courses?
Service was constant throughout the night, plenty of food and cocktails whizzing around the terrace.

What was the interior like?
The Flight club interior is fantastic – definitely unique, combining an old-fashioned pub vibe with shabby chic style. The roof terrace is gorgeous, very selfie friendly. It’s half covered and you can activate the heaters if required. One great feature is the phone box which plays songs when you enter the numbers.

What were your thoughts overall?
We love Flight Club, it’s out number one venue in Cardiff, it has the perfect mix of darts, cocktails, food and atmosphere. If you’re planning a date night or an office party, we can’t recommend it enough. Can’t wait to go again.

So there you have it. It’s official. Flight Club is fab, but obviously we can’t talk about it.
