The independent retailer is renowned for their wide range of jewellery, luxury Italian imported shoes and handbags, Mother-of-the-bride, bridal accessories and pretty much everything else in between! From bespoke luxury footwear to antique jewellery, Felicity Bridgend has every accessory you might need. We spoke to the woman behind it all, Felicity Ladbrooke.
You’ve been open for over 30 years then, what’s the journey been like?
When I was five, I asked my mum to buy me a shop, little did I ever dream that this would happen! Lo and behold we began as Felicity Shoes and Accessories in 1981. My family had been in business in Bridgend since 1917. The experience that I was conditioned in has been invaluable; customer service has always been forefront in our values, many of my customers have become friends.
A few years on, I had the opportunity to expand into the jewellery market, this has been fascinating and I love selling great products to nice people. Our customers’ needs and desires have changed considerably over the last 36 years, but we enjoy sourcing new products and unusual gifts. Keeping our prices affordable and still with our trademark wow customer service.
Tell us about all the wonderful products you have on offer…
We sell new and pre-owned jewellery, much of which has come from our customers part exchanges. We have a large collection of Clogau jewellery laced with beautiful rare Welsh gold. We also stock birthstone pieces, gold or silver as well as stunning watch lines from Citizen and Accurist.
We have an excellent goldsmith who works for us. He is skilled to meet all your needs such as chain repairs, stone resetting, resizing rings as well as offering a remodelling service! You can remodel anything from bangles to pendants and rings. We also have a very reliable watchmaker able to meet all your horological needs. We even have a pearl re-stringer, so whatever your accessory repairs are we can pretty much do it all!
Our fashion selection includes boots and shoes from Heavenly Feet, Marco Tozzi, Gamis and HB shoes. We also stock stunning leather handbags and accessories as well as clothing from Casamia, Marble, Capri to name but a few! As well as all the years of retail expertise and being a consistent pinpoint in Bridgend, you are passionate about the future of the town. What would you like to see Bridgend become and what things are you doing to help it on its way?
I can see Bridgend growing into a great spot to pop to for the everyday things we need in life. We have some new quirky independent retailers opening twinned with some great places to eat and drink.
As traders, we have formed a Bid company (business improvement district) these began in America and can be found nationwide working to make the town a better place. I am also a Deputy Lieutenant for the county of Mid Glamorgan and am very proud to attend ceremonies in the borough, welcoming new British Citizens.
Having been chief commissioner for girl guiding Cymru and continuing to be a leader in Bridgend, I am very keen that the town is a safe and welcoming place for all young people. This town has given me and my family a great life, I know it has a future. If I can be successful after 36 years, so can anyone!
