Besides appearing in the Spring edition of Vale Life, regular readers of our sister publication Travel Life may already recognise Nicky Bright. In 2025, the founder of Nicky Bright Holidays became one of the magazine’s memorable cover stars, with a major feature telling the remarkable story of a Welsh businesswoman who built a growing holiday property business from extraordinarily difficult beginnings.

Titled Bright Moves: Nicky’s Grit & Glamour Built A Holiday Business, the feature explored a story of resilience, reinvention, ambition and relentless determination. Nicky spoke candidly about starting again with just £1 to her name, finding an early lifeline by hosting overseas students and later recognising the potential of the emerging holiday-let market.

What began with instinct, hard work and a natural eye for interiors grew into a portfolio of distinctive stays across south and west Wales.

Readers can discover Nicky’s full story in Travel Life here.

Today, that same instinct remains at the heart of Nicky Bright Holidays.

For Nicky, a stay should feel as memorable as the destination itself. She has never been interested in simply filling rooms with predictable, off-the-shelf furniture. Instead, she looks for pieces with character, history and the potential to become something entirely unexpected.

Her approach is less about following trends and more about understanding how a guest will feel when they first walk through the door. Warmth matters. Quality matters. The details matter. Above all, there should be a sense that somebody has genuinely thought about the experience.

A perfect example can be found at The Old Stables in Pembroke, where a striking milk cart dating back more than 100 years has been transformed into a remarkable kitchen island. Once a working piece of agricultural history, it has been imaginatively repurposed for modern life, providing a generous surface for food preparation, integrated storage baskets for snacks, dedicated space for wine and a sleek oak resin top that celebrates rather than disguises its original character.

It is a small snapshot of a much bigger philosophy.

Nicky has long believed that quality pays. In her Travel Life cover interview, she explained why she avoids disposable interiors and short-lived trends, preferring well-made pieces that can withstand the realities of busy holiday accommodation while still making guests feel they have arrived somewhere special.

That eye for transformation can be seen across her properties. From The Old Stables in Pembrokeshire to The Coach House in Bridgend and other ambitious projects, each has its own personality. There is no rigid formula and no attempt to impose the same look everywhere. Instead, Nicky responds to the building, the setting and the people who might stay there.

Perhaps that is why her story resonated so strongly when she appeared on the cover of Travel Life. Behind the beautiful interiors and memorable properties is a woman who has rebuilt, reinvented and repeatedly trusted her instincts. Her journey has included setbacks, risk, long hours and no shortage of challenges, but also the satisfaction of turning overlooked spaces into places people actively want to experience.

The century-old milk cart at The Old Stables feels almost symbolic of that approach. Something from the past, seen differently. Something overlooked, given fresh purpose. Something practical transformed into something memorable.

Through imaginative craftsmanship, a sharp eye for quality and a genuine affection for pieces with a story to tell, Nicky Bright does more than furnish holiday properties. She creates environments with warmth, individuality and soul.

And, as Travel Life readers discovered in 2025, there is quite a story behind the woman creating them.
