We really love Llantrisant and had the great pleasure of having an office there for ten years. It is steeped in history. Llantrisant Guildhall is a fascinating new heritage and visitors’ centre that tells the remarkable story of an ancient Welsh hilltop town.

Llantrisant-guild-hall-wedding-photography-81The Grade II Listed Building has stood alongside the romantic ruins of Richard de Clare’s Norman Castle for almost seven centuries and is now becoming a major tourist attraction in South Wales.

Built in 1346 and rebuilt under the auspices of Lady Windsor in 1773 the Guildhall has been at the heart of Llantrisant life for over 650 years.

Today visitors are enchanted by the splendour of building which has undergone a £1.4million restoration from the National Lottery Heritage Fund and other funding bodies.

The beautiful Georgian Court Room is home to a collection of artefacts and treasures where visitors can learn more about the unique traditions of the celebrated Freemen of Llantrisant whose charter was presented in 1346 by the Lord of Glamorgan shortly before they fought under the victorious Black Prince at the Battle of Crecy.

There are exhibitions to the pioneering Dr William Price, while tales of bloodthirsty battles, haunted cell rooms and captured kings of England captivate visitors.

Children are thrilled by the variety of interactive displays, treasure hunts and puzzles while also dressing in medieval costume in the Archer’s Hall. Many even attempt an archery competition of their own in a town that boasted an army of trained longbowmen.

As a growing resource of historic collections, the Guildhall welcomes many different voluntary groups on a regular basis while visitor numbers are constantly.

Its dedicated volunteer team includes experts in the field of education who have designed classes, activities and learning modules suited to the new national curriculum which attracts frequent classroom visits.

With an impressive programme of guest speakers, exhibitions, dinner parties, concerts, guided walks, ghost tours and a host of community activities from medieval fayres to outdoor cinema on its neighbouring Castle Green, Llantrisant Guildhall will delight and fascinate any visitors.
