They're mad. Completely mad. But it's brilliant fun.

What an awesome New Year’s Day on Barry Island. The annual NYD swim was, this year, in aid of the amazing Sully based charity Ty Hafan.

Thousands upon thousands flocked to the much loved Barry Island and apparently over 2,000 had registered and paid £5 for the privilege of taking the dip into the cold waters of the Bristol Channel.

Fortunately, it was a balmy 11 degrees midday so those that did venture in were dry in no time. Special nod to Bro Radio and the many businesses and eateries who opened to support the event. Barry Island has a fantastic atmosphere and on days like this, you can really see why it’s so popular. Also, the new road makes getting on and off the Island a lot easier than in the past.

Marco Zeraschi, owner of the world famous Marco’s said, “This is a fantastic event and today has been amazing. We have been so lucky with the weather. I take my hat off to everyone who’s come along and supported what has been a really wonderful day.”

It was great to see the chippies doing well with both Boofy’s and O’Sheas keeping everyone fed and watered.

Our good friend and photographer, Kevin Moore, was out and about on the beach. Thanks to Kevin for sending us a few of his super snaps from the day. Let us know if you see yourselves here. We’d love to hear what you enjoyed about the day.
