We met one of our media heroes on Thursday 26th October 2019 at the launch of Quadrant Financial Services Ltd in Barry. Vincent Kane OBE, pictured here with Group Managing Editor, Jennifer Hobbs-Roberts, had flown in from his home in Cyprus as special guest. Vincent has been a client of Lindsey Adams for many years so was delighted to be invited to help launch her new venture.

Vincent is best known for his work with the BBC and we can certainly remember him for his days on Week In Week Out and Wales Today. He was a highly respected journalist and interviewer and has shared the stage with the great and the good of media, politics and entertainment including a memorable interview with the great Richard Burton (which can still be viewed today on YouTube). It was a delight to hear him recant a few tales from the good old days.

In 1988 he was honoured for services to broadcasting in Wales, becoming an Officer of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (OBE). After his retirement, in 1999 BAFTA Wales quite rightly gave him a Lifetime Achievement Award for his outstanding contribution to broadcasting.

Kane founded the Wales Quality Centre and, almost thirty years later, retired from the role of Chairman in December 2012.

He recently published a book on the romantic impulses of older people entitled The Old Sex Symphony and mentioned, with a twinkle in his eye, that despite getting on and having a lengthy list of ailments, older people still retain their libido. After meeting him at Quadrant, we can confirm that he still has a spring in his step and was an absolute joy to be around.

Vincent is married, has three children, and six grandchildren, and now lives with his wife in Cyprus.

During his speech, he talked extremely fondly of Lindsey and said “she was the best financial advisor he’d ever had”. Adding that she’d stood by him during the good times and low points of his financial life. The fact that he’d come all the way from Cyprus to assist her spoke volumes. There was clearly great respect for each other.

The event was well attended and guests were treated to drinks and excellent canapes. Look out for more pictures in the winter 2019 edition of Vale Life.
