If you’re looking for one of the best Sunday lunches in the Vale, then Hilary & Iain’s in Ogmore is certainly up there with the best.

Hilary And Iain's Sunday LunchHilary & Iain’s is quirky (just so you know). It’s not slick. It’s not fancy either – you can rock up in your ‘leisure’ wear (we usually do), and owned and run by two of the nicest and hardest working people you’ll meet (assuming you’re lucky to see them – they’re usually flat out in the kitchen).

What it does have is atmosphere and some of the best ‘home-cooking’ you’ll experience anywhere in Cardiff and the Vale.

I love beef but my favourite is the lamb. It is, in a word, stunning, and sourced locally. You get plenty of meat, lots of perfectly cooked veg and a generous gravy boat (don’t get me started on the gravy – it’s gorgeous). Iain’s roasties are unbelievably good too, as are the parsnips and the cauliflower cheese is to die for.

You’ll need to book. It’s a compact and bijou place – they can barely seat twenty(ish) inside. But, if you do, tell them Vale Life sent you (or Cabbage Girl, as Jen is affectionately known – she always asks for extra cabbage).
