Mr Carwyn Jones AM and former First Minister of Wales visited St Clare’s School, near Porthcawl last week to meet the Shell ‘Bright Ideas’ team who were the Welsh Regional winners for 2018. He presented them with the winning cheque for £2,500, which they won thanks to the sustainable energy source prototype they created.

Carwyn Jones then officially opened St Clare’s new Sixth Form Centre and stayed for a question and answer session with the Sixth Form. It was fantastic to see how engaged the pupils were with current affairs and politics and to listen to them asking questions about tuition fees, careers in STEM and future funding for the NHS and schools in Wales.

The Sixth Form students will not forget the experience of meeting him and being able to engage in their own ‘Question Time’. They had prepared their questions carefully and were clearly surprised to listen to straight-talking§ answers. It will be interesting to see if any of them show any political inclinations in the future.

What a fascinating visitor!
