The journey started thirty years ago, in converted rooms in Amanda’s parents’ home in Cardigan, west Wales. Amanda and husband Neil then moved to Cowbridge in 1998 setting up Beauty Within Medi spa in Eastgate, Cowbridge in a small rented facility with just two treatment rooms. Not long after, it was converted into five treatment rooms by Neil and his father-in-law.

The business grew quickly and five years later Neil and Amanda bought the Master Brewer Pub in a prestigious position in the centre of Cowbridge, opposite the Town Hall. The pub was internally completely redesigned to be an Elemis Day Spa and Cosmetic Laser Clinic. Five years later, an extension was added to accommodate five further treatment rooms, a larger changing room and relaxation room, and a rentable unit. The building now boasts fourteen treatment rooms, a Rasul steam temple, private spa bath, dry flotation tanks and its own private car park with a disabled entrance.

What are the owners’ specialisms?
Neil and Amanda specialise in deciding what new products and treatment combinations will work best for their clientele. Neil specialises predominantly in non-invasive laser/light and associated aesthetic therapies. He is the registered manager and reports to the HIW (Health Inspectorate Wales) who regulate the use of all laser and intense pulse lights in settings throughout Wales.

Amanda specialises in various laser and hair removal treatments. She also specialises in the spa’s clinical and medical products.

She performs skin consultations to help guide and educate clients to use the best skin therapy and provide the best repair/anti-ageing home care regime.

What services/treatments are on offer?
You’ll find everything from waxing to full luxury spa day packages, such as the Moorish ceremony of dreams, which involves the use of the Arabic steam Rasul Temple.

Their aesthetic clinic offers predominantly non-invasive laser/ light and associated other therapies These treatments include laser Hair removal, skin resurfacing using erbium and fractional radio frequency, laser tattoo removal, Intense pulsed light pigmentation and acne treatment to body reshaping and firming treatments.

Doctor Oliver Spencer is a cosmetic and orthodontic dentist and oversees the aesthetic clinic treatments and also provides a complete injectable service as well as the silhouette soft mini facelift.

What are the Medi Spa’s signature treatments?
The Medi Spa has been specialising in the removal of facial thread veins, leg veins and other vascular lesions using their Dormier Medillas D skinpulse Laser for sixteen years now. To celebrate their thirty years in the industry, they are delighted to launch their Beauty Within Signature Facial, targeting skins aged 18-35 using Elemis products. The treatment lasts 45 mins and costs £49.

Where do your clients come from geographically?
We have many clients coming from as far as west Wales, mid Wales and London. Some clients have moved as far away as Phoenix Arizona but still can’t resist coming to see us for treatment when they return to south Wales! We find many clients travel to visit us due to our experience/results and the quality of service we offer.

Which treatments are most popular at this time of year?
The holiday season is almost here and manicures, pedicures, spray tans, as well as our body contouring (Velashape treatment) and fat reduction treatment, are the order of the day.
